About Me
Welcome, I’m Sean Pope, and I started Pope Consulting after seeing applicants go through the frustration and headaches caused by overlooking a couple of land use regulations. These small oversights changed their project timelines from several weeks to multiple years, and as a staff worker, there was only so much I could do to help. At Pope Consulting, I work with clients to find these oversights, identify them as early as possible, and guide clients seamlessly through their permitting and approval processes.
Furthermore, while working as a Planner at Gunnison County, I became the office “floodplain and wildfire guy”. I took to understanding these hazards quickly and deeply, communicating with applicants about these difficult to understand regulations. Whenever my co-workers had a question about these regulations, I was the go-to person. I was fortunate to attend multiple courses at the Emergency Management Institute for managing development in the floodplain and the National Flood Insurance Program and the Community Rating System (CRS). After these trainings and obtaining a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification, I later became the CRS Coordinator for Gunnison County. As I learned, these regulations and submittal requirements are confusing, time consuming, and require specific knowledge to work through. There also tends to be the lack of institutional knowledge as staff turns over, leaving each new CRS coordinator starting from scratch. With this understanding, I am committed to helping communities improve their CRS scores and bolster their institutional knowledge, which saves time and guess work for the communities I work with. Having a diverse background in land use planning, hazard mitigation and resiliency, I combine technical expertise with a collaborative approach to provide tailored solutions that meet each community's unique needs.
In addition to permitting, compliance and CRS community support, I am committed to using the skills I’ve acquired over the years to help build communities worth living in - communities that bring people together around a shared vision for a better future. I deeply enjoy using the skills that I’ve developed through raft guiding, traveling, meditation, working with local government and exploring holonic enterprise. My next chapter of work is to support visionary individuals and groups in turning their ideas into grounded, viable realities by bridging the gap between inspiration, structure, and lasting freedom.
At Pope Consulting, I am committed to excellence; whether it’s guiding projects through the permitting or land use change process, supporting resiliency planning initiatives, or improving communities CRS scores, I’m dedicated to delivering results.
