About Me
Welcome, I’m Sean Pope, owner and founder of Pope Consulting.
I started this work after seeing how often small oversights in land use regulations could turn straightforward projects into years-long processes. While working as a Planner for Gunnison County, I found myself wanting to do more to help people navigate the system—breaking down complexity, identifying issues early, and finding clear paths forward.
During my time with the County, I reviewed over 250 building and wastewater permits and dozens of land use cases, ranging from straightforward residential projects to applications reviewed by the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners. That experience gave me a practical understanding of how the process works —what’s required, how decisions are made, and where projects tend to get stuck.
Before working in planning, I was involved in development work at South Main Gunnison, where I supported project management, business development, and strategic planning efforts. That experience gave me an inside look at how projects come together from the development side—balancing vision, timelines, budgets, and coordination with teams.
I’m naturally drawn to digging into the details, understanding how systems work, and bringing clarity to complex environments.
Today
I work with property owners, developers, and organizations across Colorado — with the deepest roots in Gunnison County and a growing base along the Front Range. My approach doesn't change with geography: clear communication, careful research, and honest feedback about what's actually feasible, wherever the project is.
Every jurisdiction has its own regulations, and I do the work to understand them, whether it's a county I've worked in for years or one I'm approaching for the first time.
A Background In Complex Environments
Earlier in my career, I spent years guiding trips through the Grand Canyon—an experience that shaped how I show up in my work today: calm under pressure, adaptable, and focused on helping people move forward with confidence, especially in complex or unfamiliar environments.
At the end of the day, I care about helping people find clarity and move forward with their projects—without unnecessary delays, confusion, or frustration—and making what can feel like a complicated process more clear, manageable, and even enjoyable.
